Confluence Masterclass

Bring bias, session flow, location, trigger and risk into one decision. Combine evidence without counting the same idea twice.

Lesson 5

Wait for a trigger, then check the numbers

Turn an observation area into a conditional entry while keeping risk as a final veto.

Study time: about 10m

Lesson

A location answers where to pay attention. A trigger answers what must happen before action. Examples include a completed reclaim, a close beyond a boundary, or a retest followed by renewed movement. Choose one definition before replay; these are different entry methods, not interchangeable confirmations.

Waiting can improve the clarity of what you observe while also moving entry farther from invalidation. Recalculate distance and available room at the actual proposed entry. If the move has already consumed the planned reward or the minimum position no longer fits, pass rather than borrowing an earlier price you could not have traded under your rule.

Describe momentum or precise reactions as current conditions, not permanent personality traits of an instrument. The same market can be clean in one session and erratic in another. A familiar product name does not justify bypassing the session-flow or risk questions.

Worked example

A support-reclaim plan initially suggests entry 108, stop 106 and target 112: 2 points of risk and 4 of potential reward. Waiting for the actual trigger produces entry 110 with the same invalidation and target: 4 points of risk and only 2 of potential reward. Under a rule requiring 2R of room, the later entry is a pass.

Try it in replay

Write a trigger that can be observed at a completed bar. Calculate its risk and target distance using the price available after confirmation, not the best price inside that candle.

Check your reasoning

The fill assumption must follow the trigger in time. If the plan needs a price that traded before confirmation, it is a different entry method and cannot be credited to this one.
